COMMON SENSE: Since racism is dominating the news, I want to address the issue straightforwardly from what I consider to be a Christian perspective. Here is what I believe:

  1. If everyone in the world was righteous except for black people, Jesus would have come to die on the cross to redeem black people from their sins.
  2. If everyone in the world was righteous except for Asians, Jesus would have come to die on the cross to redeem Asians from their sins.
  3. If everyone in the world was righteous except for white people, Jesus would have come to die on the cross to redeem white people from their sins.
  4. Almighty God loves us, all of us. Because no human being is righteous on his own or her own, not even one person, Christ had to die for the sins of us all, making the lyric from the children’s song absolutely true. “Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight.”
  5. That this is true is what makes the Gospel good news. Points one through four are foundational truths for Christianity. To deny them is to deny the core value of the Judeo-Christian worldview.
  6. Therefore, if Almighty God loves someone enough to sacrifice His own Son for that person, which is exactly what happened on the cross, who am I to place myself above God and say that I am better than that person?
  7. Because I cannot justifiably do this, I must conclude that racism in any form, whether it be white racism or black racism, is sinful and un-Christlike.
  8. Further, if my thinking is flawed, my behavior will follow. If my attitudes and behavior are racist, regardless of who I am or how I try to twist the truth to justify my position, I cannot do it—not if I want to walk in the light with God. I must call it what it is—sin. If my attitudes, my behavior or both are racist, I must repent of them.
  9. Nevertheless, this does not make me responsible for the behavior of others, especially for events that occurred generations before I was born.

God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin (I John 1:5b-7, NAS).

COMMON SENSE: The last time our nation experienced this level of discord, unrest and violence was during the Vietnam War. I lived in a radical Hippie community in Southern California with my wife and three young daughters. Along with Berkeley, Haight-Ashbury and Brentwood, Isla Vista was one of the epicenters for the Radicals. Just like now, lawlessness. anarchy and promiscuity reigned.

In the 1970s, I was already a born-again, patriotic Conservative who championed law and order, a strong military and the rights of the unborn. There was a popular bumper sticker during this period that was all over California. It said, “Jesus is coming again, and boy is He pissed.”

The first time I saw it, I laughed out loud. It was so appropriate for the times. As I thought about it then and have continued to do throughout the decades, the sentiment of this bumper sticker was correct. As Christ said He would, He will descend from Heaven with a shout as the seventh and final trumpet blows. In the Bible, this is “The Day of the Lord.” It will be an unpleasant time for those who are the enemies of righteousness.

Nearly every Evangelical Christian in America believes this, including me. Because we hold this viewpoint so fervently, and because we see the depraved being elected to leadership throughout the land, many of us believe the End Times are upon us. Maybe they are; maybe they aren’t.

Nobody knows for sure, but what is certain is this: The tougher the going gets for Christians, the more faithful we must be. At risk is the Judeo-Christian worldview and the American way of life.

Sitting on the sidelines or straddling the fence while we witness the systematic destruction of our beloved nation by Radicals, Democrats and Politically Apostate Christians is not an acceptable position to maintain. Being lukewarm in the face of Evil, which is what many are doing, is never a wise position to take. Instead, it is time people of faith to take a stand against the encroaching Evil, with all of its godless perversions and false beliefs. It is what we have been called to do by the Lord. Remember:

There is no creature hidden from His sight,

but all things are open and laid bare

to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do

(Hebrews 4:13, NAS).

It’s time to open your heart and your mind to the leading of the Holy Spirit, knowing that “greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (I John 4:4b, NAS).

COMMON SENSE: Will Antifa, Black Lives Matter or any of the other Radical Leftist groups be able to pull the United States apart, start a bloody revolution and destroy us from within? Many believe this is actually happening right now, but I disagree. Instead, as has happened several times during our illustrious history, these groups will fizzle out and become a victim of their own excesses.
To most, it will seem as if they accomplished very little, but I also believe it is a mistake to think this way. There is one thing they have accomplished and it’s certainly not good.
Because of their loathing for America and their utter contempt these groups have for the American way of life, they have succeeded in poisoning the minds of millions of our young people. They have twisted the thinking of our youth so badly that millions will never love the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Founded on the divisiveness of identity politics, millennials have adopted an ideology that is based on resentment rather than inspiration, as they repudiate personal responsibility and hope. They exult deprivation and unfairness rather than the ability to seize an opportunity to achieve the American dream. Resentful and perpetually angry, they exploit our differences rather than champion our similarities. Vilifying our heritage without even trying to learn or understand it, they advocate lawlessness and anarchy, insisting that it is necessary to teardown a system that they self-righteously have deemed to be rotten to the core.
For those of us who love our nation, we have never been ashamed of being American. Instead, we have always been proud of our heritage. Millennials, especially those who have been poisoned by the false, godless beliefs of Antifa and BLM, hate being Americans. Bolstered by Progressive Democrats and Politically Apostate Christians, the champions of anti-Americanism have found fertile ground to spew their hateful ideology.
They’ve created a real problem, but it’s not unsolvable. The remedy is for patriotic people of faith to do two things. First, we must stand firmly against the destructive lawlessness of the Radicals. Arrest and prosecute all vandals. Second, we must present a vision of hope for the future. Rallying around our flag and other symbols of our heritage, we need to present a positive visualization for the future. If we do, and the quicker we can do it, the better. Our goal should be to win back the hearts and minds of those who are lost and preserve our democratic republic.

COMMON SENSE: In a Peter Strzok note just released, the disgraced former FBI Agent wrote that Joe Biden, the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party, suggested that the Logan Act of 1799 be used against Michael Flynn. This law has never been tried successfully, but it remains on the books.
The importance is that Biden made the suggestion—not the Logan Act itself. It means Biden was a participant in the failed coup. Based on Strzok’s note, Biden does not have plausible deniability. He was an active, advice giving, participant. This alone should disqualify him, but not many will make the connection and report it. This means it’s up to us to make this widely known.
Biden suggested applying the Logan Act as a way of charging Flynn on 1/5/17, less than two weeks before Donald Trump was sworn in as our 45th President. At the meeting were former President Barack Obama, then-FBI Director James Comey, national security adviser Susan Rice, and Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates. This is the infamous meeting where the coup against President-Elect Trump was launched.
On a scale of 1-to-10 in importance, this is a 10.

COMMON SENSE: When I was young, the most consistent message I received was to value education. At school, at home, at church and even playing with other kids, the virtue of learning about our nation’s illustrious history was always proclaimed as being desirable. Everybody felt the same way and for good reason. As Americans, we were the beacon of hope for oppressed people throughout the world. Everybody wanted to be like us.

As a child, knowing this made me proud of my heritage. I still am proud of it. Throughout my life, I have never abandoned my core belief in America’s greatness. It has sustained me through many difficult times, including now.

With the Cancel Culture movement sweeping the country, where ignorance of our history has become a virtue and lack of knowledge is being championed as estimable, an entire generation of young people will never internalize the value of patriotism. Unlike my generation, kids are being taught to hate America and not love it.

The Radical Left, repudiating the pride of our heritage, along with the value of the American way of life, are proud of what they know, but they don’t know much. Unable to handle our past or be able to reflect upon it, in their Totalitarianism of Thought they demand that we destroy everything America has ever stood for. There is no reasoning or common ground—not with these hatemongers. All they understand is brute force.

Insisting that everyone think as they do, they value violent extremism over thoughtful contemplation. Insisting on anarchy to replace law and order, their goal is to rip this nation apart by dismantling every vestige of our past. They want to create a utopia where the ignorant and unwashed supplant those who simply want to live in peace and quiet.

Like cancer, the Cancel Culture is ravaging our collective unity and destroying America from within, but are we terminal? Will this be the end for the United States of America as we know it? Is mob rule destined to become the norm? The answer is yes, unless people of faith and character stop being passive and become willing to stand up against this onslaught of terror.

The Democrats, who are fearful of offending the Radical Leftwing of their party, will never do it, so it’s up to people like you and me. But, will we be strong enough? Will we be wise enough to not allow ourselves to be deceived by the simplistic positions of the Cancel Culture? Will we be willing to confront their violence with force to restore law and order? We’ll see. So far, the jury is out.

COMMON SENSE: I have just reached my twenty-eighth anniversary of sobriety, a long time for an Irishman. Especially in the early years, AA was my lifeline. Because of the 12 Steps, which insisted I take personal responsibility and accountability for my behavior, I was able to purge myself of past wrongs and deeds that were less than estimable.

I was directed to make a “searching and fearless moral inventory” which, being raised Roman catholic, felt very familiar. After having admitted my wrongdoing to God, my sponsor and myself, I became willing to make amends to those I had hurt along the way. I did this and have continued to do so consistently for nearly three decades. Having become my lifestyle, it’s not hard. It’s easy, so easy that I rarely have to make amends anymore. I just do the right thing.

As part of my recovery program, from the beginning, I also incorporated the Serenity Prayer into my life. It states:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

the courage to change the things I can,

and the wisdom to know the difference.

This is not just a sweet aphorism. In sobriety, it is part of our foundation, providing moral clarity and direction for all of our actions.

Being grounded in truth, I no longer allow anyone to deceive me about any of their agendas, most of which are godless. So, when I am told that I should be ashamed for being white, which is something I cannot change, I don’t accept what is being said. If I were black or Asian, I wouldn’t be ashamed of that either, nor would I allow anyone to shame me for it. Instead, I would go back to another foundational truth, one I learned from a song as a very young child.

Red and yellow, black and white,

they are precious in His sight.

God loves the little children of the world.

This is true. God does love us—all of us.

Knowing I had nothing to do with slavery or segregation, nor did any of my Irish ancestors, I have the wisdom to not allow those who are ignorant of history to impose guilt upon me for an issue that doesn’t belong to me. I continue to be willing to make amends to anybody I have wronged, but I will not make amends to those I haven’t. I will not allow Leftists to shame me into taking responsibility for something that isn’t mine. Nor will I allow the contempt they are more than willing to heap upon me to rob me of my serenity. It’s not going to happen—not now, not ever.

COMMON SENSE: Whenever I resist writing about something I need to say, it’s always an important message that needs to be expressed. So, throwing caution to the wind, here goes.

What happened a few days ago in Atlanta bears no resemblance to what occurred not long ago in Minneapolis. Instead, the Fulton County District Attorney, Paul Howard, in a calculated attempt to stoke the flames of racial tension, used the shooting of Rayshard Brooks—not to achieve justice—but to win his runoff election against Fanni Willis. In a move aimed at gaining political support, he has used this tragic situation exclusively for self-promotion.

By charging both officers with crimes, while purposefully misleading the public about what happened at his highly-watched press conference, Howard’s goal was reelection at the expense of the truth. Howard said that Officer Devin Brosnan would be a willing witness for the State against his partner, but Brosnan’s attorney quickly refuted this claim.

The attorney told the public that his client had suffered a concussion during the altercation with Brooks, when the suspect shot the officer with his own taser gun. Once shot, Officer Brosnan fell, hit his head and everything became a blur after that. For a while, even though he had regained his footing, Officer Brosnan didn’t even know that Rayshard Brooks had been shot. Not having regained his mental capacity, being in a dream state, how could he be a reliable witness to what occurred after Rayshard tased him?

Officer Garrett Rolfe, however, did know his partner had been incapacitated by Brooks. With his partner being unable to help in a meaningful way, this made it Rolfe vs. Brooks, mano y mano. When Brooks turned and tried to use the taser on Officer Rolfe, Rolfe returned fire killing Rayshard Brooks.

The entire incident was tragic and could have been avoided, if Brooks had just complied with the lawful order to submit to being handcuffed for a DUI. Because the arrest would send Brooks back to prison for beating his children, however, Brooks chose to resist arrest. This decision led to his death.

This was not felony murder, as Howard has charged. It was a justified shooting.

In addition, Officer Brosnan, who sustained a wound during the unprovoked altercation, shouldn’t be charged with anything. To make certain public opinion would be in opposition to the police officers, however, District Attorney Howard said, “Officer Rolfe actually kicked Mr. Brooks as he lie on the ground, while he was there fighting for his life.” This infuriated everybody, but it also tainted the prospective jury pool.

Since Howard’s goal was to gain a primary victory over Fanni, District Attorney Howard didn’t care. That it would destroy Officer Rolfe’s life was also insignificant. The fury it produced was worth it to Paul Howard.

It’s no wonder many officers from the Atlanta Police Department have come down with the Blue Flu. Can you blame them for not wanting to put themselves in harm’s way to protect and to serve? I certainly can’t.

Father,

Each day, as we go to bed at night and rise in the morning,

We are besieged by disquieting thoughts that engulfs our spirits.

Mighty forces of Evil have risen against us from the pit of Hell.

Their goal is to rip our nation apart and destroy us from within.

Loathing righteousness, they embrace sin and call it just and holy.

Hating all that is good, those who greatly desire America’s destruction

Have nothing but contempt for You, for Your Son, for Your Word

And for millions of Your children who refuse to bow their knees

To the damnable and depraved—to those who call what is good evil

And what is abominable and detestable worthy, noble and good.

The number of those who desire America’s complete destruction

Have become so numerous that they are like the sand at the sea,

While those who refuse to submit to worshiping their false god

Of Statism and anarchy appear to have diminished proportionately.

Millions of honest and decent people have become apprehensive of the future,

But it is a mistake for them to do so. Forgetting that He who is within us

Is far greater than he who is in the world, many of Your children despair.

Believing all is lost, they have become discouraged about what will happen.

This is why we come before You today and ask that You stir Your people,

Those who are called by Your name, to stand strongly against the Evil

That threatens our future with a way of life that is anathema to Your will.

In Your love for the American people, which has existed for centuries,

We ask that You raise Your mighty hand in our defense and utterly thwart

The despicable and detestable plans of the Radical Progressive anarchists.

Let their destruction be so complete and overwhelmingly that it produces

A mighty revival of purity throughout the land that is honoring

To You and to Your holy name. Father, we ask this for Christ’s sake,

Amen

COMMON SENSE: Having been sober for twenty-eight years, I have been to multiplied thousands of AA meetings. I have personally known hundreds of people who have had DUIs, including one myself decades ago, but I have never known anybody to resist arrest when being stopped for a DUI.
That Rayshard Brooks resisted arrest is what has baffled me. I wondered why he refused to comply with being handcuffed? Why would he choose to start an altercation with the two police officers? At that point, based on the videos, they had treated him very well.
So, why did Rayshard choose to fight rather than submit? To me, this is the critical question. When he assaulted the two police officers, he quickly prevailed, easily getting the upper hand. His ability to do this was impressive but, since he went for their weapons, the officers must have been fearful for their own safety.
The reason why Rayshard refused to submit is a critical piece of information being withheld from the public because it explains everything. When the two officers arrested Rayshard for a DUI, he had a blood alcohol content of 1.8, more than twice the legal limit in Georgia, but that’s not all. Because Rayshard had been released early from prison because of COVID-19, being arrested would have been a parole violation that would send him back to prison.
Having served seven years of a nine year sentence for physically abusing his children, he chose to fight rather than return to jail. This is why he wouldn’t allow himself to be handcuffed, which is standard when being arrested for a DUI.
I think the officers would have been wiser to call for backup and arrest Brooks who was fleeing on foot, but this isn’t what happened. Brooks’ death was unnecessary, but he brought it on himself by not surrendering. The media is busy painting him as an innocent victim, but this is far from being true.
I may end up in Facebook Jail for posting this, but the facts do matter. In the court of public opinion, the police officers are being portrayed as monsters but, when this is adjudicated properly, they probably will be exonerated.

COMMON SENSE: There is a Scripture that says, “Without a vision, the people perish.” This can also mean, “The people are unrestrained.” In America, I believe the second interpretation is the most accurate. We have become an unrestrained people. We champion wrong, calling it right, while legislating Evil and calling it Good. Millions do what is right in his or her eyes—all at the expense of our nation’s soul.
Those who speak out against the New Morality of the Radical Left, which is nothing more than the old immorality, are vilified, shouted down, and called “racists.” Because of this, few are willing speak out in opposition to what has become politically correct. To maintain the traditional values of earlier generations is no longer viewed as archaic. Instead, it has become a hostile, un-American worldview. Those of us who adhere to its tenets have been marginalized as citizens.
Refusing to confront Evil headlong, we have brought the destruction of our nation’s soul upon ourselves. We have foolishly believed there would be no negative outcomes for our behavior, but this has proven to be unwise and untrue. There are numerous consequences and none of them are positive.
Since the health of a nation is based on the collective character of its inhabitants, it seems clear that the United States is in trouble. By embracing Evil and calling it good, just and desirable, how long do you believe we can continue to sustain ourselves like this?
No external threat is as serious as what we are doing to ourselves. We are decaying at our core—all because we lack vision and have abandoned righteousness. Despite our claims to the contrary, the heart and soul of America has become flawed. Fools from the Left as well as Deep State bureaucrats are leading us. Corruption abounds. It has become so commonplace that there isn’t even much of an attempt to hide it. It’s being championed—exalted as being noble and good.
Being desensitized, we have come to expect political graft and fraud to be par for the course. We believe nearly all of our political leaders behave the same way. Shrugging our collective shoulders, we say, “This is just the way things are, and they are not going to change.”
Being inundated by that which is ignoble, we do nearly anything we can to escape our feelings of despondency. What has happened is this: Being told our vision is flawed and always has been flawed, millions have come to loathe what once made us great. Consequently, a corporate malaise has swept our nation. In our discouragement and despair, more Americans than ever have chosen to self-medicate their pain with alcohol, pills, weed and other forms of personal vice.
If I’m accurate about the nature of our national situation, and I am, how do we correct what’s happening? The answer is simple but implementing the cure certainly is not. We must return to the ways of our forefathers, including their beliefs, which were noble and high-minded. If we do, then millions will regain their noble vision and sense of purpose. They will still have to do the difficult work of recovering from a deeply flawed worldview—nonsensical Progressivism—but at least they can have hope, real hope and a robust national purpose.
